What Makes a Movie Exciting

So you are going out to the movie theater, and you are looking up a review for the movie that you want to see. So let’s say that the review said the movie was great, but it didn’t give very many reasons about why it was so good. So then you start wondering: What makes a movie fun to watch? Well, there can be multiple answers to that question. The answer I would give is that there are three simple variables that can make or break a movie. They are: the acting, the storyline, and the character development! We are going to start with the acting.
Acting is key to a movie’s structure. Movies such as: X Men First Class, Batman Begins, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy had incredible acting, but what defines excellent acting? Usually a great actor will add feeling into the lines as well as adding feeling into the movements. A bad actor will flub lines, will not add to the story, and worst of all will not add feeling into his or her acting; therefore, the movie can become less interesting and can even make it annoying to watch. Since outstanding acting can make the story more interesting, you will also feel like you personally know the character. The director has the responsibility of making the actors say their lines right and making sure that they put feeling into their acting, so it is the responsibility of the director to improve the acting and therefore improve the movie.
The next one we are going to talk about is the storyline. The storyline in a movie is vital! If a movie has a bad storyline then the movie can become dull, boring, and even confusing. Yet again, it is the director’s job to improve the storyline and make it more interesting. An interesting storyline will: make the movie more exiting to watch, will add depth -depth usually equals interesting- and will make the movie just overall fun to watch.
            The last one is character development. It is the least important, but it still plays a role in making the movie more interesting. If a movie has bad or no character development you will not care about what happens to the characters; therefore you will not care about what happens in the movie. Adding sufficient character development will make the movie more interesting and fun to watch.
